theatre

in 2024, I became invested in musical theatre! on the left are musicals/plays i've seen, and on the right is a list of those which i saw live at some point (to my memory).

my list to the left is subject to change frequently, but i feel the need to say somewhere that i haven't met a musical i didn't like! even though 42nd Street is quite low, it has some of my most favourite songs (even though its a jukebox musical...) and i still enjoy watching it. those shows are mostly in order of what i'd like to rewatch if i had to choose (i am an avid rewatcher and revist my most favourite things very frequently*), making most of my opinion based on rewatchability/enjoyability. sorry thats just how i roll.

i am definitely quite inexperienced currently in the musical field (like atp i still have not seen Les Mis im SORRY) but i'm getting there!! i am more than open to recommendations, please send them my way!! i will probably write a detailed list about each show when i feel the need to explain myself more.

what i have loved especially about diving into the world of theatre is seeing how shows change between productions! (see my Legally Blonde lyric evolution tracker here)

i have always liked musicals, but i never really got "the bug" when i went to see them. as you can tell, i haven't even been able to see that many live, but i've been able to dive deeper into the world of musical theatre, and i've loved every second of it! unlike most people, i didn't grow up participating in theatre, either. my schools never had an established drama club, and "the school musical" never really happened like it seems to in the United States. how unfortunate!

i always wanted to be involved, but i never had the opportunity. there was a summer theatre camp that my city put on locally that most of my friends went to when we were younger, but when I asked my mom if I could go, she said no :(. it is currently one of my life goals to participate in theatre in some way, probably doing something technical rather than acting... or maybe i'll make it to broadway. hehe (/j)

*this is the same way i rate movies on letterboxd... if you even care.

pages about theatre i would love to make in the future because i have Many thoughts:

  • revivals
  • stage to screen adaptations
  • original musicals vs screen/page to stage
  • cast albums
